Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Light Painting?
Light painting photography is a unique and complex photographic process that is created in the dark. It utilizes specially modified LED lights and/or powerful high-speed strobe lights to create a series of images of a stationary subject, usually on location. Once the subject is placed, it cannot move until all of the exposures have been made.

Any item, from the smallest piece of machinery, or jewelry, to a fairly large building, can be light painted. Some of the endless possibilities are shown here on our website, but it can be literally almost anything.

Absolutely! Whenever people (or pets) are in the light painting, we do that part first, before it gets too dark. It only takes a short time to photograph that portion of the light painting. Then, you can relax, and probably have fun assisting, while Deni creates your artwork.

When everything is completed, you’ll have the option of two light paintings. One with you in it, and one without you.

Whenever possible, you’ll meet with me (Deni) to discuss your subject and ideas and to plan the photo session in more detail. Out-of-state projects can begin with a simple phone call.

The photography location may have to be scouted ahead of time (sometimes earlier on the actual day of the session). That way, we can find the best angles and the best viewpoint for your image creation.

The time it takes to create a light painting will vary depending on the size and complexity of the subject and the size and scope of the location. Typically, for most outdoor locations, it takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to complete the photography part of your light painting.

Since every light painted subject and its location are unique, the time and expense needed to complete the process are determined by its complexity. In-studio projects start at $300, while on-location photo session that require travel, scouting, and pre-planning will be more. The light painting session fee is independent of any printed images that you order.

Your finished photograph is typically ready to review within 7 to 10 working days after the photography session. The beautifully printed versions, on aluminum, are typically ready in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Yes, gift certificates are available by contacting me by phone or by using the contact form on this website. Gift certificates may be purchased for any amount.

I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Just call me at the studio at, 208-457-1111 Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm, or by email at [email protected].

You may also visit the studio to talk with me and see real metal prints on display. There is no charge for this visit. Please call ahead for an appointment. I look forward to working with you to create the photograph of a lifetime!

How is it Done?

A typical light painting project involves the use of special LED lights and, in many cases, some of the exposures are also done with our high powered strobe lights. Most of the time, Deni takes 200 to 300 images, sometimes more, on-site to be sure everything is covered with light.

Most of the light paintings we create take 3 to 4 hours to photograph from set up, waiting for it to get dark, and then photograph all of the details in the scene.

Call Me!

Calling me on the studio landline, is the best way to communicate. Calling during business hours 9AM to 5PM  Monday through Friday is the best way to reach me. (leave a message if I am unable to answer)

The studio landline is 208-457-1111, or on my cell phone is 208-691-3836 (a text is fine too). We can schedule a convenient time to meet at your light painting location or at our home studio to discuss your ideas.

If you live out of town, a simple phone call can get the ball rolling. You can also message me from the Contact Us form and I will get back to you asap.

We’ll Meet Up

When we meet, we’ll discuss your ideas and I will help you in planning the light painting session. If you have a special location in mind, it might be important to visit the site with you to determine the setup and the best time to do the photography. The session fee is due once the actual photography date and time are scheduled.

We’ll Get To Work!

You must be there for the photo session. I need your input to decide on the final location and camera angle before the light painting begins. There’s a very good chance that you’ll be helping in other ways during the actual session too.

Our clients enjoy being a part of the whole light painting process. The actual photography usually takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, sometimes more. It depends on the size of the featured subject(s) and the physical size of the location involved (we light paint that too).

Your participation during the light painting session will give you a much deeper appreciation for the beauty of your finished artwork. Our clients have told us over and over again that it was very cool to be a part of making it all happen!
